Green

72 percent of hunters and anglers say that climate change is happening, and within that segment, 74 percent agree that human activity is affecting our climate. This overall acceptance was true across political party affiliations.

I spent vast amounts of time outside in North Florida when I was kid, in fields and rivers, springs and forests. I knew the rhythm of the place as well as anyone can know anything. I had deep within me the knowledge of what sprouted when; what fish bit what time of year; when the first butterflies would emerge and when the cypress trees would start to green again.

None of those hold true anymore. It’s all been disrupted. Climate change has warmed North Florida so much that plants that died back in the winter still grow even in January and butterflies can be found all year long there. Even plants that are killed by the frost sprout weeks or sometimes months earlier. Nothing is like it was.

It’s easy to claim climate change isn’t happening when you sit in a room all day annihilating brain cells with Fox News, too obese to walk across a parking lot much less hike through the wilderness. It’s a different thing when you see it with your own eyes and feel it with your own skin. Even more than the official statistics and IPC reports, I know climate change is real because I have experienced it directly. It’s happening and it is intensifying. It’s the most obvious thing in the world if you know a place like I did, once.

Cry

As I’ve said before, I love that Zeynep makes the anti-vaxxers and the Covidians cry. She’s great. And cares about evidence.

Flat Defect

People really do be saying stupid shit like, “There can’t be any resistance movement in Ukraine because it’s mostly flat.”

HAVE YOU SEEN IRAQ? The resistance there was pretty damn successful. Also very flat (mostly) with far less vegetation. In Ian Welsh’s case, as in most cases, ideology makes you extremely stupid.

Crit

Many women insist this isn’t true, but it really is:

Funny how much less of a “creep” you become when you get way hotter even though your behavior has not changed in the fucking least. And women will swear up and down they aren’t doing this while obviously and repeatedly being guilty of it. To be fair, I think most don’t realize it. But is being an oblivious hypocrite better than being a deliberate one?

Five years ago, I could get branded “creepy” for accidentally standing too near a woman in public. Now the way some of them look at me and my physique so thirstily, I suspect I could probably fairly crudely proposition them* right there in public and they’d just be like, “Oh, you silly goose! I’ll meet you at 7!”

*Note I would never do this. But now I could if I wanted to with far less consequences.

Least Nude

I sent a female friend of mine this text earlier:

“Send me a photo of you when you can. The least nude photo you have (most clothes possible). I want to see nothing”

She sent back, “I mean this in the best possible way, but you are the weirdest guy I have EVER met. And that’s exactly why we’re friends”

Really Never

Hey another one of those things I was told “could never happen….” FUNNY THAT KEEPS HAPPENING

No Ifs Ands or Bots

Agreed — and yet a lot of y’all, including Laurie Penny in the past, portray all men as sex-crazed robot default rapists. Seems a little unfair, doesn’t it? Even if it is true of some men.

Pairody

Idea for a dating service for liberals: You are only allowed to date people born on exactly the same year and day as you. Twice a year, all singles born on a certain year and day meet in a city and pair off.

Surely this would eliminate (already mostly bullshit) power imbalances completely!

Vile Ents

It’s weird that all men are seen by women as default violent and dangerous when all I personally have ever done is defend women against violence and have never intentionally harmed a woman who wasn’t extremely violently attacking me with intent or potential to greatly harm or kill me — and even then, I held way, way back in a way that I never would have with a man.

Too many women see men as ever-violent sex robots and that really kinda sucks.

Status Quo

Remember things like this when clown-ass types like Quantian tell you that people now have it better than ever:

Also this:

But sure, everything has never been so great. When I was 18, a friend of mine rented a small apartment working full-time for near minimum wage at a Blockbuster. You could not do that anywhere now. Not even close.
