Tactical nuclear weapons are nearly useless on the battlefield. Mildly hardened enemy targets won’t be significantly harmed, while you’ll destroy or contaminate resources and infrastructure you need in the future. Additionally, escalation of this type with an also nuclear-armed enemy means you risk the switch from tactical to strategic nuclear weapons.

There’s almost nothing to gain from tactical nukes and very much to lose. They shouldn’t be used unless we’re fighting hive mind aliens or some such.

Great goddamn. It’s not often that you see direct fire like that from such close range on an armored vehicle. At least it was an instant death for whoever was in that BTR-82.

That looks like a T-72 the Ukrainians have. Not sure of the variant. Can’t see enough.

Say It Again

I’ve been watching a lot of combat footage lately to discern how our next wars are going to play out. The state of drone warfare is changing and advancing all the time. All the footage, though, is grim. I’m not going to link to these as civilized people1 shouldn’t watch such things, but there are numerous videos of a Russian soldier surviving one drone attack only for another drone and then another to come finish him off.

Supposedly, the Ukrainians now have semi-autonomous AI-powered drone picket lines. From the evidence I’ve seen, I believe it; even the indirect evidence is that they would’ve been overwhelmed now by Russian advances without this tech.

Does anyone realize that the Terminator franchise was a warning, not something to go ahead and create? Guess we’re fatally attracted to the torment nexus. The US and every other country is at least 10 years behind where the Ukrainians are with drone tech. We have to do something about that as we’re likely to be fighting in Europe and the South China Sea soon enough.

I find this plausible. I’d expect a winter attack, though, not fall. Russia’s ambition is to take the three Baltic States and Poland. Also Germany if it seems feasible. They will do this while Trump is in office if they can.

About twice a day, I think about the Ian Welsh (et al.) pre-war contention that resistance in Ukraine was impossible because it is flat. And I have a good hearty laugh.

It’s such a great source of amusement. Why would you listen to anything that doof or those like like him claim after that, I have not a clue.

But at least it was entertainingly dipshitty.

Exactly. One “easy” way to have open borders is to build a huge damn empire.

Which I guess is one of the reasons Ian Welsh and those types are such Putin fans? I can’t find any valid reasons so I am just spitballing here. Worshipping Putin is both gauche and embarrassing. It’s the lefty equivalent of being a right-wing edgelord. In a way, it’s just pitiful.

But I have no pity because unlike Mr. T, I do not pity the fool.
