I wish more older women blogged.
Does anyone know of any blogs of women (preferably feminist oriented or feminist sympathizing at least) in the 40+ age range?
I read Digby’s Hullabaloo and Echidne of the Snakes already.
The reason is that blogs of younger women tend to be so utterly consumed with White Guilt (if they are white) and identity politics that they are increasingly difficult for me to read.
While that stuff matters some, it’s about as likely to change the world as turning a vacuum cleaner on and off over and over again.
Women who grew up exposed to second wave feminism and who actively participated actually did change the world, so they know what it takes. I think that’s why I enjoy reading their blogs a lot more.
If this post offends anyone, I would say that I am sorry, but that would be a lie.
Tangentially related by which I mean not at all, how much of the following is actually true about getting into tech nowadays?
Off the top of my head, I can think of Daisy’s Dead Air and Cheryl Lindsay Seelhoff, but they might both irk you with their politics even if they have lead interesting lives.

I think that most of that is true about getting into tech. It never was a meritocracy, but it’s about as far away as possible from it now.
I only know my own case really well, so I’ll talk about that — but I have nearly 15 years of experience in a really diverse range of jobs and technologies, loads of certifications, and I am looked over for jobs I could do in my sleep because of no college degree.
And many tech jobs that are “entry level” now require 2-5 years of experience, stated right in the job ad. How anyone can define that as an entry-level job I don’t know. And it’s not uncommon to see jobs that require a CS degree for something no actual CS major would want to do, like help desk or sales. People get CS degrees to get away from jobs like that!
Thanks for the links. I go to Daisy’s Dead Air frequently — I forgot about that one! Never been to the other blog, though. I like Daisy’s writing quite a lot, and politics never really bother me as long as the reasoning is sound (for the most part).
