I didnโt realize there was some dumbass SEO argument for not putting dates on posts.
There are sites I donโt visit any longer because of undated posts.
Probably relates to my field and me being picky, but if Iโm reading about something in IT, it really, really matters if it was written two years ago or today. If I canโt figure that out, I wonโt be visiting your IT-related site again.
I think that proclivity has spilled over into my browsing of non-IT sites.
Yep – makes it harder and harder to tell if fix-it advice is useful at all or not.
A lack of dates would concern me when I’m evaluating information just out of sheer curiosity. For example I spent a minute trying to answer which countries had the largest oil reserves. It makes a difference whether that information is from this year or five years ago. I also have been futzing with my laptop because my wifi keeps dropping signals in Windows 8. And these are trivial examples.
For unrelated reasons I’m now cursing SEO heartily right now. It allows crappy fraudsters to look legit to the naive and unsuspicious.
