Car windows are very strong, especially on modern cars.
If you do need to break a window, striking near the corner is best. Using industrial grade ceramic from a spark plug or similar breaks a car window easily, as that is quite a bit harder than glass. It takes shockingly little effort to break a window with spark plug ceramic.

An improbable sequence of unrelated events over a few years (a couple of decades ago) convinced me that either
a) cars are really easy to break into without breaking anything, or
b) I missed my calling as a car thief.
