That is just disgusting. She is the main character as the tweet points out. How can anyone think thatโs a good idea to omit her, especially as there are so very many female fans of Star Wars, and already so many women and little girls cosplaying as Rey?
Movie and toy company execs are clueless. The problem with 60-year-old sexist white men is that they keep making more of them.
It’s Star Wars. They don’t have to be smart or have a clue to make money hand over fist with this franchise.
Without commenting on the plot:
The promotion for this movie is actually super puzzling. You basically have to be hiding in under an ad free rock not to know there’s another Star Wars movie. They hired an Academy- Award- winning- face- of- Lancรดme actress to play an alien in a CGI mask in a small role and she’s on the red carpet far more than the lead actress. Seriously, you don’t hire someone like that to hide their face. I had to check Imdb for Daisy Ridley’s face and credits. I know she’s signed on for another Star Wars movie which is filming right now. Why the hell would you create multiple new Star Wars movies and not have action figurines of the new main female lead?
Yeah, you’re right — in this case, bad decisions have no disincentive.
But to not have the Rey action figure in the box? Still locked up in the idea I guess at the exec level that if it’s a girl, it’s a doll, thus no boy would buy it. I think they are completely wrong and are thinking things they themselves would’ve thought 30 years ago, but that’s probably the logic.
