Transform

Where did this idea come from that every device and computer must have the same interface?

That sounds like prima facie a bad idea. Actually thinking about it deeply only makes it fare worse.

I know! I want to fly a 747 with the interface of a Yugo. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Why would I ever want to use a 27-inch monitor with a phone interface? It amazes me what some people think is tranformative that is really just fucking stupid.

  1. You’d be shocked at how many people don’t internalize rules of how OSes or any programs work. Basic, basic shit. And they can’t /won’t learn!

One supervisor of mine could not figure out how to send email in Outlook to the point she needed screenshots and step by steps in order for her to do this and leave me in peace to do my job so the office wouldn’t grind to a halt.
When it came time for a review, it was merely “nice”, not “I taught you how to do a key component of your job. Thanks”. She would either have had to leave the office to get training during the day (shit she would be out half the time anyways) or go take a community college class and put her snot nosed juvenile delinquent children (one kid stuck firecrackers up a frog’s cloaca with his cousin, wtf is wrong with your parenting) with a baby sitter to learn how to do this.

“What’s a file? How do I find the button? Why do I need to remember the name of the file? I don’t understand. Where’ s the power button? ” She totally deserves an interface that looks like a Playskool phone barfed a rainbow. It’s a shame really that everyone else has to pay for it.

    • Oh yeah, I know — I did user desktop support off and on for 8+ years, so I’ve seen firsthand how little many users know or want to know. Even very easy bits, roughly the car equivalent of learning to turn the steering wheel they are completely unable to do on a computer.

Just hurts themselves, really, but it is painful to support them.
