I hate when almost anyone talks to me about the stock market because it’s everything I can do to control myself and not say, “Everything you just said is the most wrong it could possibly be. If you put what you just told me into a machine that specialized in making something as wrong as possible, that machine would melt down into slag because even it had never experienced something so vastly incorrect.”

When I talk to regular people about the stock market (which I try to avoid), I realize regular people should have absolutely nothing to do with the stock market ever.

BR

“Boomer remover” is somehow even better than “OK Boomer.” Gen Z and younger millennial humor is the best.

And accurate take. The Boomer generation has caused most of the issues that are besetting the country, and like Joe Biden dismiss any valid plaints about the very existence of the problems and their culpability therein.

“Boomer remover” could not be more deserved. I’m no advocate for the death of anyone, but how’s it feel to get a taste of your own bitter medicine, boomers?

Garland

I’ve been watching Devs. I can see why “smart” people don’t like Alex Garland’s work. He leads you down these paths where your prejudices and expectations cause you to assume certain things are going to occur…and then they do not, and not only that, the narrative sort of punishes you for thinking those things.

“Smart” people do not like this sort of rug-pulling. They want to be comforted, told their opinions and suppositions are correct, that their ideas are scintillating when really they are merely clinquant.

This is why Garland’s works are disliked by this class — the dominant one among pundits, white feminists and the like.

How Could

Well, the technocrats told me that art is a luxury and distracts from productivity, and the liberals told me that sex is not a basic human drive.

You mean…they weren’t correct? How could that be? They are so well-educated!

Rocks

And they just take that as a given, like that wasn’t a choice. They just assume it must be that way. It’s amazing to see how the “best and brightest” can be dumber than very dumb rocks. Our education system is worthless.

Loaning

That’s a bailout that actually helps regular people, too. That’s how you do it, and we could do it if we wanted to. That’s why people are angry — $1.5 trillion will be loaned to banks, but nothing will be done for anyone else.

The Point

You fucking dipshit, yes this is how it works but the point that people are attempting to make about these bailouts (and yes, they are bailouts) is that the same consideration was not given to homeowners during the Great Recession and is not being given to student debtors now. The banksters and their companies have been given every chance, every advantage, with direct and indirect bailouts, the ability to make free money with low-interest loans which they then loan out at 10-100x the prime rate, all while people’s homes were foreclosed on and they were left with nothing.

Now tell me what happens if, say, a student loan debtor were to be bailed out, even absent absolving them of the loan altogether (which is what actually should be done). It’d be something like the government taking over the loan and converting it to a 40-year loan with a 0.5% interest rate. For a typical 10-year non-deferred student loan debt of $50,000, that’d make a $600 monthly payment go to $115. (And the loan would become de facto cheaper over time as the interest rate is below inflation.)

That’s something similar to what the banks are allowed. The above is also then not a free handout, but I am sure this self-professed neoliberal fuckstick would be opposed to it. I hate “smart” people.

C Duty

Yeah, my partner remarked that she heard someone use the phrase “civic duty” and that even to her ears, it sounded antiquated. It does to mine too, alas. Such talk is considered among the neoliberal technocrats of the left and the right as so, just, dรฉclassรฉ and passรฉ and something a prole would say.

We are so, so fucked as a society, as a polity. As a people.
