Are men truly unable to function around a beautiful woman & do they realize it’s happening?

I don’t usually notice what someone looks like really while I am talking to them. I have to devote all my social processing power to interaction. I think this actually helps me because I don’t treat really beautiful (or unattractive) women any differently.

My social skills are pretty good these days but I’m not a natural, so I must devote 100% CPU time to have those skills seem fluid and normal. If a woman in exceptionally attractive I might think later, “Oh, she was pretty” but it doesn’t register at the time. It’s a rare case where my compensation for underdeveloped social skills courtesy of North Florida trauma actually helps me, I think. Beautiful women don’t intimidate me in the least because I’m barely aware of what they look like when I’m interacting.

Some writers are so bad I always wonder how they got a book deal when I probably could not. How does that happen?

If anyone thinks competence has to do with much it most likely just means they’ve never worked in the corporate world before. I started reading a book written so poorly I wondered if it was some sort of satire of clumsy, oafish writing.

It was not.

This I agree with and it’s why philosophy is indispensable. Without it, you don’t know what the fuck you’re doing, why you’re doing it, what result you hope to achieve or how to assess that you’ve arrived at the end point you set out to reach.

I don’t usually have the patience for drum covers but this is great. I wondered how she was going to handle the very fast dual kick drum parts with a very different setup than Lars ever used. She’s a more precise drummer but I think Lars’ setup sounded better overall. I’d love to see her play it on this:

Ayup. People literally drowned and were revived during the making of that film. I couldn’t find it again, but I think I remember an interview from the late 1990s with one of the actors from The Abyss. The interviewer said, “You looked like you were dying in that scene.”

And the response was, “That’s because I was dying.”
