I only heard about this show because it was canceled, and what a fucking tragedy. It’s the first show I’ve watched in a long time where the future culture portrayed felt truly foreign and divergent.

I understand why it’s low-rated on IMDB. It’s beyond strange, it doesn’t explain much to you, and it used a lot of oddball words and bizarre ideas. I loved loved loved it.

The “interrogation” scene in the first episode is amazing, where cultures clash completely and both sides are amused and have no clue what’s going on. (In this world, the “police” on the Moon are basically psychologists/grief counselors.) And Emma McDonald is so very good. She’s what a tough person is actually like in real life, not the usually over-dramatized version found in most movies and TV shows — especially if it’s a woman.

Agreed. “They/them” for singular is both extremely confusing and becoming semi-mainstream, which means the wokerati will abandon it soon enough.

And good riddance too.

I made an offhand comment about Putin destroying Latvia in the post below, but it does stump me why so much of the American left is now ok with invasion and genocide and would likely be gleeful if Putin invaded Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland.

I want nothing to do with those people, and nothing to do with anyone who has anything to do with those people. Just total scum of the worst kind. And I do include Ian Welsh in that fetid trash bin of failed humanity.

Wish I’d been there to see and hear that. Maybe one day, unless Putin destroys Latvia too.

I hate Trump, but it is weird how many things are blamed on the Trump administration that were actually caused or begun by Obama.

I asked him to explain himself better but just shouted “When people say Chinese food the last thing they expect is white rice, get a f*ing clue” and locked himself in our bedroom.

What the fuck. Just about every meal I got in China had a big bowl or box of white rice. It’s a staple food there. It’s just what you get, like if you order a hamburger in America you get fries. Rice comes with everything, almost, and is available everywhere.

Smartphones are the worst thing to happen to computing. If I could go back in time to stop those from ever being developed I sure would.

For some reason, their advent caused designers and programmers to attempt to poorly port smart phone conventions and usage mechanisms to desktop computers where people need to get real fucking work done. That has gone about as well as you’d expect but those fucking idiot mooks cannot seem to stop doing it.

Smartphones and their depredations aren’t the only issue, of course; the whole “fire the QA department and let the users test your crap OS” is also a part of it. It’s amazing how much worse computing had gotten since the early 2000s. The marketers, MBAs and other species of clowns have totally won and there is probably no going back now.

One thing that’s mystifying about the rise of SUVs and mega pickups. Smaller cars are MUCH more fun to drive. Maneuvering some behemoth around in a city/suburb setting just objectively sucks

That puzzles me too. Driving those lumbering monstrosities is extremely unpleasant and awkward. Many people drive them nearly-exclusively in cities or urban areas where they are impossible to park and don’t even fit in the lanes properly.

How do they tolerate it? And why? It all just makes no sense. Is it that important to look tough and manly (even if you’re a woman)?

Had a dream I was on a commercial flight and the ACAS alarm was sounding. I was the only passenger who knew what it was. That would not be a good sound to hear in real life.

The most annoying “feature” of Linux of all time is that if any of your drives listed in /etc/fstab have an issue (even ones that are not important for booting) Linux will toss you into “emergency mode” with no indication of why this is the case or what went wrong.

It’s an absurd default and whoever thought of this should be exiled to Ganymede.

I don’t use TikTok mainly because it sucks and is terrible, but also I don’t need any of my info (well, any more than currently already is) in the hands of the CCP.

TikTok should be banned in the US as it’s completely run by a foreign intelligence agency. How insane is that.
