As a former fighter pilot, I can attest to the fact that HUDs, even for expert pilots, can often cause attention tunneling and can lead to accidents. As a researcher, I have yet to see a design outside of the cockpit that provides actual value beyond the cool factor. https://t.co/TaBYyc4ZAP

My car has a HUD. It provides the speed of my car where I donโt have to look down at the speedometer to know how fast I am going. This is extremely useful and provides actual value. The less time looking down at a display == the fewer chances of something unexpected happening while youโre looking down instead of at the road.
It also provides other info like when a song changes โ meaning I am less likely to look at the stereo, another accident-causing distraction in cars.
HUDs provide huge value to me. I donโt really want a car without one because it keeps my eyes on the road rather than down in the display gauges. I donโt believe she mustโve looked very hard, then, as the HUD in GM cars is extremely well-designed and keeps eyes up.
