I think I just realized why many liberals actually hate NASA: it’s because it shows people there can be a public good that promotes and celebrates excellence, rather than attempting to eliminate any found as an expression of Tall Poppy Syndrome. NASA shows we can be more than we are, and achieve things that seem impossible at first glance, so for that they must be condemned.

It’s the liberal version of why conservatives/Republicans want to nuke the USPS, basically. Both are disgusting in about equal measure.
