Marisa Tomei for โMy Cousin Vinnyโ Is the Rare Perfect Oscars Win.
Agreed. She was so damn great in that part and I loved how many people got angry that a relatively-unknown model-turned-actor won for playing a lower-class person in a comedy film. Thatโs one of the few movies Iโve rewound (VCRs at the time!) 5-6 times just to see her parts again.
I agree with Tomei why so many people โ inside Hollywood and out โ were scandalized by the win.
โWhen I was younger, it hurt my feelings,โ she said. โIt made me quite ashamed, actually. But on the other hand, itโs a load of [expletive]. I think it had to do more with the role that I playedโthat it was comedic and that it wasnโt upper class. I think it was more of a classist thing, frankly.โ
That is one of my favorite film perfomance of all time. And it still holds up to this day.
