I finally watched the first episode of the show Aquarius, solely because Emma Dumont is in it. Itโ€™s not that good. Emma, of course, is excellent, but sheโ€™s given very little to work with. The material is weak and scattered and it doesnโ€™t feel foreign at all. It reads like a bunch of folks from our time transported to 1967 and doing very 2015 stuff in 1967.

Tarantino did a far better job with this era is his Once Upon a Time In Hollywood. That film felt like traveling to a strange land, with people whose motivations and behaviors didnโ€™t line up with ours.

I donโ€™t understand what the writers or director were thinking with this show. Why the fuck make it a cop show? Itโ€™s completely boring this way. You have Emma Dumont in your cast and you let David Duchovny stumble around making funny expressions half the time? What a waste.

Anyway, enjoy a cap from a scene where Emma D. actually had a chance to act:

That show needed way less of what it had and much more of everything to do with the story of Emmaโ€™s character (also in the show named โ€œEmmaโ€). If someone gave me the money, the time, and her in my cast, I couldโ€™ve made such a great show about this era. Huge missed opportunity.
