I finally watched the first episode of the show Aquarius, solely because Emma Dumont is in it. Itโs not that good. Emma, of course, is excellent, but sheโs given very little to work with. The material is weak and scattered and it doesnโt feel foreign at all. It reads like a bunch of folks from our time transported to 1967 and doing very 2015 stuff in 1967.
Tarantino did a far better job with this era is his Once Upon a Time In Hollywood. That film felt like traveling to a strange land, with people whose motivations and behaviors didnโt line up with ours.
I donโt understand what the writers or director were thinking with this show. Why the fuck make it a cop show? Itโs completely boring this way. You have Emma Dumont in your cast and you let David Duchovny stumble around making funny expressions half the time? What a waste.
Anyway, enjoy a cap from a scene where Emma D. actually had a chance to act:
That show needed way less of what it had and much more of everything to do with the story of Emmaโs character (also in the show named โEmmaโ). If someone gave me the money, the time, and her in my cast, I couldโve made such a great show about this era. Huge missed opportunity.
