People who say they want to “eliminate crime” and things of the sort do realize that not no one actually wants that, right? Did they fail philosophy 101 but consider themselves philosopher kings?

“Eliminate crime” is the same sort of fantasy world thinking as Zero Covid, just the “crime” thing is more from the right side of the aisle. It means nothing will get done but you’re striking the right poses, very serious ones.
