It’s all a cheap mathematically-engineered analogy, and certainly is not any kind of evidence that the vacuum is an acoustic-like medium or that quantum theory has been derived from classical dispersion. The damn thing starts from Schrödinger (Madelung), chooses constitutive laws that force a Coulomb operator, then calibrates with non-derived parameters to hydrogen. That is not in any way a meaningful physical derivation of quantization. It’s just like if I traced a photo of someone with a pencil and declared I had discovered what they look like from that. No I did not.

One way the military makes long, dangerous deployments tolerable is sometimes providing high-quality food when you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere. When I was in Egypt, once a week at the (excellent even in normal times) chow hall, we got some special meal: lobster, lamb, sometimes grilled fish. It made the deployment a whole lot more tolerable, knowing that we’d have good to great food. There was also high-quality ice cream and desserts available.
Some of the better food I’ve had was at that chow hall in Egypt, and I do not begrudge spending on quality sustenance for any of my brothers and sisters in arms. They deserve it and should have it.
