As usual, Nicholas Kristof identifies the problem but is wrong about its cause and solutions.

The upshot, polling suggests, is that men are becoming grumpier and more resentful of women’s success, and more drawn to conservative authoritarian populists, from Donald Trump to misogynist internet personalities like Andrew Tate.

This evolution in mens’ views has absolutely nothing to do with being “resentful of women’s success.” Just not the first thing. It does, however, have to do with a few changes in society and the decline of feminism. When feminism was about equality, a lot of men were on board. When it became about proclaiming how all men were just horrendous sex beasts who only wanted to harm women, most men rightly left that behind and positioned themselves against such nonsense. You don’t have to be an Andrew Tate fan to see that the “hate all men and attempt to destroy them” brand of feminism is harmful to you.

Increasingly, men are told that we only want sex, that all flirting of any kind anywhere in any context is wrong, that we don’t do enough around the house (even though outside work, yard maintenance, any work on cars, etc., is never counted in “housework”*) and that since we are just useless sex beasts anyway, we should be grateful when even meth-infested unemployed orungatan-ass women pay us the slightest bit of attention.

That is not exactly a good deal for men, really. No wonder many dudes overreact and become conserva-clowns. It’s understandable. I sympathize, even, though I don’t want anything to do with that sort of brain damage, either.

*In fact, a lot of women believe we do this “for fun” so it shouldn’t be counted. Not we fucking the fuck do not.
